As the director and executive producer, I had the privilege of bringing to life a narrative that challenges perceptions and champions talent. "I don’t think people know how good the girls are," says pro skater Sky Brown, a sentiment echoing the current landscape of skateboarding. Despite its meteoric rise post its Tokyo Olympic Games debut in 2021, the sport grapples with gender disparities. Female professional athletes find themselves cornered with limited brand sponsorships, not due to a talent deficit, but a prevailing misconception about their skillset compared to male skaters.

Skateboarding isn't just about athleticism; it's a dance of unpredictable movements, each infused with a skater's unique flair. While style remains subjective, technology offers an objective lens to view performance. Enter "Project Skate" - a groundbreaking machine learning tool developed by Googlers in Tokyo and Sydney. It meticulously measures a skateboarder's speed, height, rotation, identifies grabs, and deciphers tricks in real-time.

In refining this tool, local skateboarders played a pivotal role, but it was Sky Brown, a beacon for aspiring female skaters, who stood out in the testing phase. Through this project, we aimed to harness technology to shatter misconceptions, spotlighting the undeniable prowess of female athletes in the skateboarding arena.

"I want to inspire girls to get into skateboarding but also other sports. I think we can do anything boys can do."

- Sky Brown, Pro Skateboarder
